Katie Strempke wrapped up her 2022 Tour Divide early this morning with a second-place finish in the women’s category and first overall for the women’s singlespeed bracket. Not only that, but the 29-year-old also became the fourth overall singlespeed finisher, just behind Gehrig Haberstock, Zack Friendly, and her partner Andrew Strempke, who finished on Monday. Katie finished in 19 days, 16 hours, and 11 minutes (19d:16h:11m) aboard her Chumba Sendero singlespeed with 32 × 17T gearing.
Katie has been documenting the ups and downs of her ride on Instagram, and it’s clear that it has been an incredibly challenging ride. Just yesterday, she was caught in a severe thunderstorm and published a video of herself crouched in the lightning position. Today, she was dealing with temperatures in the 90s (30°C). Katie stopped at the Sonic in Silver City this morning and mentioned some knee discomfort, but she obviously didn’t let that hold her back so close to the finish.
Well done, Katie!
