Commemorating International Women’s Day today, “Breaking into Focus” is a new video from Kona Bicycles that shines some light on the uphill battle many women face to break into the cycling media world. Join professional creatives Patty V and Colleen Meas on a meet-up in California and hear their stories in the 11-minute video here…
To commemorate International Women’s Day, Kona Bicycles just launched a new video that follows two professional creatives, Patty V and Colleen Meas, who’ve been tirelessly working to break into the tight-knit cycling media industry. Breaking into Focus is a thought-provoking piece that sets the pair up on a “creative blind date” on a shoot for Kona and highlights one of many areas in the cycling world where women face gatekeeping and a lack of inclusivity.
In Kona’s words, “This International Women’s Day, we’re honored to be able to shine a light on Patty and Colleen’s collaboration journey and bring attention to the women who are out there kicking ass and kicking down doors with their hard work. Asking for help is incredibly hard, but remembering to answer and offer peer mentorship is something that we simply need to make time for—because odds are, it will make all the difference in the world.”
The 11-minute video above invites viewers to immerse themselves in an endearing story about a sunny Southern Californian meeting a rugged Pacific Northwesterner halfway up the West Coast to improve their skills, ride bikes, and get the job done together. It also serves as a reminder that although cycling is a solo activity, working with others is often the key to unlocking the next phase of whatever we’re working to accomplish.
After watching the video, catch up on some of our many posts highlighting other rad women from around the world of bikepacking below.
